The Battle: Good Vs. Evil
I came from seeing a movie tonight- The Avengers. I couldn't help but draw a parallel to the battle that wages everyday in our lives. This is a battle that has been waged since almost the beginning of time, the battle of good and evil. In the movie, the Avengers were a group of gifted super-humans who banded together to defeat an evil character whose goal was to take away human freedom and force them to bow down to him and make them believe this was good. I couldn't help but think of the enemy- the real enemy of the world, Satan.
John 10:10
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
If you don't believe in an enemy you've already been defeated. If you don't believe in God, you've already been defeated. A crafty enemy is usually not so stupid to come right out and tell people what he is doing. First he enslaves the people and then carries out his will. People become enslaved by their own sin and by their own attitudes. When you are enslaved you are no longer a threat, unless you break free.
But God does not enslave us.
Satan has already achieved enslavement in the world, and the sad part is those who are enslaved don't even know it. People are bowing down to the enemy everyday. When you make something else your God it's called idolatry. Whether your life is centered on money, physical appearance, sports, work, or just your self in general you might as well be bowing down to Satan. He has got you right where he wants you.
Romans 6:6
knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
The only thing is that people are so misguided and deceived that they think with the logic that most people in the world think. They are basically good people so they are going to heaven right? WRONG. If you're not walking with God, you're not walking on his side, the winning side. That means you are walking on Satan's side, the losing side by default, because we are born into this sinful world. Satan will ultimately lose the battle with God. God is infinitely stronger and is in fact the original creator of Satan before he became a fallen angel and decided to defy God.
Romans 3:23
If you don't know what side you're on, you're on the fence and you are LUKEWARM. The Lord says:
Revelation 3:16
So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.
So keep fighting the battle everyday, but remember you are on the good side if you're on God's side. And good does win out over evil in the end. Justice does prevail. So fight the good fight of faith. A good fight is one where we win. Satan might win certain battles when it comes to the world, but God wins the war ultimately.
1 Timothy 6:12
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Don't grow weary in doing good. Keep fighting and don't give up no matter what you have to face. God is with us through it all and we are not alone.

15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
