Which Body Part Are You?

1 Corinthians 12:12-26

Unity and Diversity in One Body
"For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many.

If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be?

But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it."

We are all part of the body of Christ. We are each a body part, and Christ is the head. That may sound really strange but it is a spiritual reality. Often the things of God seem a little strange to us, but as we grow in Christ we come to the point where we say, "Oh, but of course!" The Holy Spirit helps us to know that these biblical truths are indeed a reality.

So which body part are you? Do you know? I think the best way to figure that out is look at your spiritual gifts and let the Spirit of God reveal it to you. Once you find out, everything will start making more sense to you and you will say, "Oh, but of course!"

God showed me that I am part of the heart. I had a great time looking up information about the functions of the heart. What I learned is that the heart has one main function: to pump blood. The heart is a pump that pumps life into the body. The life is in the  blood.

Leviticus 17:11

"For the life of the flesh is in the blood,.."

The heart also purifies the blood and removes metabolic wastes. One of my functions is keep the blood pure and remove all waste. This makes sense because my top spiritual gift is discernment, which means filtering the truth from all non-truth. I see my role as someone who works to keep the body of Christ pure and free from all deception and error.

The heart never grows tired. It keeps pumping faithfully. Usually we are not aware of the heart's function unless there is a problem. I have often been taken for granted until I leave a place.

My function in the body of Christ is to pump life into the body. This makes sense with who I am as a person. I am very enthusiastic and sometimes very loud. I speak from my heart. I love to worship God with dancing and shouting. My top sacred pathway to God is enthusiast. Finding out your sacred pathways to God is also very helpful. There are free tests you can take online to find your sacred pathways and also your spiritual gifts.

Once I found out I was part of the heart I began to understand my role, function and identity so much more. I always felt different than others because I feel things so intensely. This can be a blessing and a curse. I feel sorrow to deepest capacity, but I also feel love and joy to fullest capacity. God has created me with a deep capacity to love. I feel my heart is an endless ocean and there is no depth that my heart cannot reach. God is working all the time to increase my capacity to love Him and others more than ever.

Knowing which part of the body you are is so enlightening! Find out your function in the body of Christ today. Seek God. Ask Him and He will tell you! Pray about it and He will reveal it to you.
