Why Be Moral?

We need to be moral because without morals we are nothing more than animals. If we don’t have morals and there is no sense of right and wrong then there is a free for all and everyone could do whatever they want. We can see in our society and in every society before us there has always been a sense of morals and an inborn sense of right and wrong. Despite this we have still not obeyed our inborn sense of morals. There have always been people who were criminals and everyone has done wrong things at times, even “good” people. Without morals there is “survival of the fittest”, a theory by Charles Darwin that treats humans as if they are animals and not thinking and logical beings, capable of rational thought. We each have an inborn sense of morals, but we cannot obey them because of the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. As hard as we try we can never live perfect moral lives. We may want to and try, and even delude ourselves into thinking we have no sin, but each of us is steeped in sin in this fleshly body. As Christians we fully believe there is no other hope for us than the blood of Christ, the perfect sacrifice for a deeply sinful people. The spotless righteous lamb stands in stark contrast to a horrifically dirty and ragged race of people. Though our sins were as scarlet, He has turned them white as snow.

Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord,
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.”
