12 Simple Truths
1. Jesus is called "the Alpha and the Omega"- the beginning and the end. Therefore, we must trust Him from beginning to end for everything, large and small. God's love language is trust. He feels loved by us when we trust Him.
Revelation 1:8
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord,“who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
2. God gave us ears to hear Him, and we know the sound of His voice when we hear it.
This is something I have struggled with tremendously recently. I have heard from God, but the problem was I started to doubt my ability to hear Him correctly. The conclusion I have come to is this: most of the time I believe we do correctly hear from God. Deep down in our spirits we just know it is Him. We know the sound of His voice. God has given us ears to hear Him. We must trust the ability.
Jesus said:
John 10:27
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."
Jesus also said:
Matthew 11:15
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"
If we still don't know if we are hearing from God correctly, He is greater than our minds and can speak to us in other ways. If you pray for confirmation God will show you the answer. We can know we are hearing from God if it is a persistent voice over a period of time, and if it is leading us away from sin and closer to Him. If He has given us the gift of discernment, we can trust the gift because it is perfect and comes from Him, the Father of Lights.
James 1:17
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning."
Just as God is greater than our minds, He is also greater than our feelings. We cannot trust our feelings to lead us and guide us, but must trust the voice of God to lead us and guide us.
1 John 3:20
"For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things."
3. Forgive others, because we have been forgiven by Christ.
Ephesians 4:32
"And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you."
4. God is molding us like clay. I wrote this in my notebook on 1/18/16: "God is tearing me down and building me back up again."
Isaiah 64:8
"But now, O Lord,
You are our Father;
We are the clay, and You our potter;
And all we are the work of Your hand."
We must love God even when we don't understand Him, or what He is allowing or doing in your life. We must learn to trust Him again. Don't turn away from Him in the hard times, but turn towards Him. When you get knocked down don't destroy your foundation, but build upon it once again. The problem is not with God, but with us. He is molding us into perfection and that is often a very painful process.
Jesus said:
Matthew 7:24-27
Build on the Rock
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
5. We find God through our own personal sacred pathways. Discover what those are and seek Him with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13
"And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart."
Matthew 22:37
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
6. The way God's plan unfolds for us is often different than way we imagined it would be. God's ways are different than our ways. What God thinks is often different than what we think.
Isaiah 55:8-9
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts."
7. Sometimes the answer is right under our noses and we just couldn't see it before.
8. God's will is what is, if you are seeking Him and praying for His will to be done in your life. To achieve God's perfect will you have to give Him permission to change your will. He will not impede upon your free will unless you give Him permission. You must pray for God's best and be willing to suffer for it. There is God's permissive will, and then there is His perfect will- His best. Aim for the latter. God can also use His permissive will to bring about some very good things, but we must be open to His best.We are running a race here, and we have to give it our best.
Romans 8:28
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
9. Seek prayer from and with others: for healing, for needs, for everything.
James 5:14-16
"Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."
Jesus said:
Matthew 18:20
"For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
10. Trust in Jesus for everything: for healing (both ours and others), for salvation (both ours and others), for needs (both ours and others), for protection (both ours and others), for everything.
11. Pray for awakening in this nation and world. Pray for God to pour out His love and Holy Spirit on people's hearts, leading them to repentance and salvation in Jesus' name. Pray for repentant hearts, ready and willing to receive the gospel gladly. Pray for open doors for someone to share the gospel with them so they will be ready and happy to receive Jesus as their personal Messiah. Pray for revival in the church. Pray for God to pour out His conviction and the baptism of the Holy Spirit on people's hearts in the church, leading them to repentance and salvation in Jesus' name.
12. Pray and worship in the Spirit, and pray and worship as led by the Holy Spirit. We've got to worship God with our spirits. We've got to connect to God with our spirits and let our deep worship come out. That is worshiping in truth. We've got to connect to God on a very deep level, and that is through our spirits.
John 4:24
"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
When we pray as led by the Spirit we are, in essence, praying in tongues, because prayer led by God and to God is what praying in tongues is. We can pray in tongues and interpret it at the same time. Prayer led by God is much more powerful than prayer that originates within ourselves. We can also pray in tongues and not have the interpretation. Praying in tongues is praying in a heavenly language that God understands and we do not. God will often have us pray for things that we don't know about. This is the Holy Spirit praying through us.
Romans 8:26-27
"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God."
